so i found this crochet top the other week and was inspired to shoot around it...just determined actually ha. loved the delicateness in combo with such a soft color. just a simple and gorgeous vintage piece. so here i went...bust out the big ol bell bottom levis, some platforms (which i snagged last year and almost passed out! in unbelievable vintage condition!) along with a floral scarf and voila!

here is what the outcome was...most of all and at the end of the day HAVE FUN no matter what you do. photography and art/fashion fuel me, it's when i don't think with my head but with my heart and let go, with no fear, no wonderment of what will be or what others may think. which is so liberating and so raw! in any case, here are a couple of photos with lovely friend Bri from the other day.

the other day lovely Tracy from visit with her here had a sweet day at the beach. filled with french food, fun photos and of course friends. couldn't resist taking my camera, which has been attached to my hip as of late! miss Tracy wore this gorgeous vintage dress she scored the day before-yes we all swooned and drooled- and oddly the dress and beach combo made for a sweet impromptu photo session.

so one of my amazing friends (and she hearts model you may have seen a time or ten around the shop), miss ericka, took a quick trip down to L.A. last weekend to do a lil this, a lil that, and to shoot a music video...ahhh yes in the desert sweating all her water out (and for those of you that know ericka, know she don't sweat!)

she had a fantastic trip even with the heat! she met some sweet new friends who are all doing what they love! she came back with a handful of goodies from designer brian lichtenberg check out mr. lichentberg's closet which prompted my chaotic mind to shoot her closet, which quickly turned into her living room, kitchen and her! i just ambushed you friend! thank you for letting us snoop around your closet, drool drool drool...shhhh she has a second storage unit a.k.a the garage ;)

as sad as this sounds, these amazing books that have inspired me for so many years through out college have been collecting dust on the shelf! they've almost become shelf art!?! but i was sitting in the room the other day, pacing my brain back and forth trying to figure out how to inspire myself...take a walk? which i did...and yea, felt much better but wasn't fueled artistically. then i thought, OKAY i have it! get online and see what my instagram friends are doing? i did. i am always inspired by the artistic amazing-ness of that community, but still something was missing? AH HA! i needed something to touch, to look at right in front of me = BOOKS! so i crawled over to my small art/photoag/design book collection and pulled a few of my go to books.

one of my simplest, sweetest books has to be false flat. seriously dutch design melts my heart. i was turned on after having a dutch professor whose portfolio always moved me. her work was simple, clean, but caught your attention, always had a uniqueness that moved you.

my allllll time favorite book i have come across to this day is area by phaidon press. it's a collaboration of design, artwork, photography of designers through out the world. every time i open this book i feel like i have traveled the world.

lastly the two books that i love for two different reasons; david carson for going AGAINST the rules of design and typography. do what ya love and the rest will follow. he did, and he broke molds. i had heard in university (which he also had graduated from, which got me even more giddy) he studied something totally different, like sociology or philosophy and ended up becoming a world famous typographer and graphic artist. the other book is the journal of dan eldon, if you haven't heard of him i recommend you google his name. the books his sister and mother published after his death are moving, his personal journals. it's raw, unedited, amazing art, photography, a journal. he never thought anyone would see it, so it's real, inspiring, and beautiful.

i've been soooooo slow with getting as many new vintage goods up and measured as i have been finding! such a bummer, but just been busy being pulled in different directions with the shop...which is awesome and fun and challenging but i'm back on it this week!

how funny would that be- imagine; me, my clunky camera, thrift stores and taking photos of random finds and vintage goods = the crazy lady! another reason i love my iphone, keeps me looking relatively sane :)

a night at the fair

so finalllllly went to the fair with my friend the other afternoon, after what felt like 110 years! seriously i can't remember the last time i was at a fair or carnival?!?

we both got there and were two kids lost in a candy store. in awe of EVERYTHING, every ride, every game, every neon light, ever scream and every corn dog! yea, when did cotton candy get "jumbo" sized, and why?!?!? sugar shock anyone? i know, what a grandma talking about health and being health conscious at the fair. wrong place and wrong time :)

okay going to peel my mind off of the jumbo cotton candy and share some of the photos i was able to snap! the two of use geeked out so much so we didn't even get a chance to get on any rides! we got so submerged in the world of photography that not only did time fly by, we also gained a couple of severely sore necks! ha... but no worries, it was an amazing time :) hope ya enjoy some of the action...

so it's the middle of summer, the heat is on BLAST! ehh about in the 90's give or take and you will STILL find me at the local noodle house! CRAZY? Maybe! But they have air conditioning that they aren't skimpin' on, so i'm hooked. eating my noodles, and making them a lot more spicy than my mouth can handle :) kudos to my big appetite and love for all sorts of foods. my friends and family always tease me that i love to travel because of the food *only...like i say screw the culture, scenery, languages and people, it's all about the food (funny guys, i'm laughing inside)

just can NOT get enough of the bedazzled look, just found this mini dress today...i really wish i would be a. comfy enough to rock it b. have a place i could rock it out to without looking like i dressed up early for Halloween c. refer back to A.

found those awesome quilted sweater booties yesterday on a quick run (womens 6.5 or else they'd be keepers), and that sequin number was a pick up from last week! i love the sequin block pattern on her.

i also found all those amazing dresses below thriftin today! they must have been a lot belonging to one person since all roughly the same size and era! man today was a gem of a day with the finds. Photo time here we come...i'm inspired, and have a few beautiful & creative friends to shoot with. *thanks to all the people that have come (and some that have stayed :) who support me. it rocks my world and melts my heart to feel it.

ughh such a daunting task to go through the closet and beyond PLUS the shops closet to detox and purge. i mean i know in the end it feels so liberating to let go of stuff, to be free of and feel that much lighter.

yet i sit here on a beautiful summer day biting my nails, just waiting for the time to hit 3 o'clock and we can close up for the day. i bet i sound like a big baby, sitting here typing away while i'm pseudo running a yard/garage sale...but i can't help it (playing the smallest violin) i'm pooped and to top it off i myself started a detox 3 days ago. yay me!! an awesome juice only cleanse...cheers to all the detoxes going on in my world from inside out.

sometimes i get in these little corners where i NEED travel, NEED different, NEED inspiration, need action, plus i just LOVE travel in any shape or size...some days i motivate easily, other days i need a little hand holding *thank you to those in my life that do, can be a tough task ;)

inspiration just comes from an amazing person and conversation or something i just randomly saw and it just lights me up. needless to say i was in the zone of inspiration as i usually am, so a few of us friends took a lil road trip this past week, here are some photos. inspiration and beauty lies everywhere, even in unassuming places i would've never imagined it would be, but if i take a second to be present, active and aware it's there, i see it! hope you enjoy the beauty <3

It's such a trip, just 24 hours ago I was in California sitting there with friends having food, conversation and great laughs in English, and voom within hours (although long hours when on a tight confined crammed space like a plane) I landed 9,000 miles later into Istanbul and bye bye English...I love it here. This place always carries a comfort for me, my other home on the other side of the world, and although sometimes it can be over stimulating, busy, crowded, traffic-y and my Turkish errr well lets say it can get me by, I still have love for this city, big time!!!! The people here are warm, although you can always find the occasional annoying effer, like any part of the world, there is tons of history, architecture, life here. Seriously an east meets west sorta town...Enough yammering, here are a few photos of what my day was about, mosques, Istanbul, eating, walking, getting lost, being out of my comfort zone and loving it!

So I'll be off doing a lil traveling for the next 6 weeks, so the shop will be closed from June 15-July 29th. Expect to see a whole slew of goodies when I return though!!! Getting prepared now with photoshoots and a whole bunch of thrifting, so the second I land the shop will re-open...in the meanwhile I attached of few photos I'm drooling over and will hopefully see/visit/swim/sleep/eat at while over seas...wohooooo...life is going to be hard! ;)

Yeah wedges are in full force right now, all over the place…wear them with socks, no socks, skirts, pants, dresses, they go with everything and most any season (maybe minus cold snowy winters, or who knows ya may be that brave)

I love so many of the various styles out there, even though I seem a bit awkward and feel too tall in wedges/high heeled shoes, weird since I'm not that tall to begin with...ha have to share this, I heard the best thing this weekend when I was shopping, this woman next to me was trying on these adorable whats, yes wedges, and asked what I thought. I'm sure my face already gave it away, but I told her they were ridiculously cute on her...then she replies “yeah I need to get over the heel height, I’ve gotten lazy, forgot what it’s like to be female and wear heels sometimes.” HAHA I was in stitches, UMM MEEEEE TOOOOOO! Lazy bones over here! I barely get out of my t-shirt and jeans.

Yeah so I’ve been quite random as to what I’ve been attracted to lately, from something floral and completely 80s to simple and taupe, but I love it all. I think it’s the ebon flow of everything, and right now I’m definitely waxing and waning day in and day out. I’m in love with some of these pieces I found on Etsy, now mind you I would be ‘buying’ these amazing items, except I’m moving in a few months and trying reallllly realllly hard to downsize my personal closet, including shoes, hats, jewelry…yeah tell me about. But I’m trying hard. So now I’m redirecting all my energy into ‘window shopping’ First off I’m obsessed with this large silver ring by candy shop vintage, gorgeous and simple! Diggin this vintage party dress, perfect for summer, from closet case vintage…meow….and the hat, I’m just jealous of people who can pull this look off by the way, the hat is incredible and feminine and go with just about everything from Simple Thrift!

So I have this THING for plaid, it's been around for years, on my mind always. I have moments where I'm more obsessed and neurotic about finding, buying, and wearing it...which is probably right now. And ya can tell just by looking at what I've got blasted in the shop. Jokes on me! So I ran into a few other plaid pieces from some other awesome Etsy shops...um YES I would love to even travel in plaid with these amazing vintage suit cases from Vintage Status, or even be more subtle with this plaid vest from Oh Leoluca vintage, LOVE...and love her shop!! xxx

Here are some photos from our frolic in the park! The weather and wind could not have been any better...isn't feeling the grass beneath your feet so liberating? Yet how often do we do it as adults! Sad but true. I truly do...and that's pretty hard to say for other jobs I've had:( slicing bagels not so much ;) Yesterdays work day was incredible, I love to feel alive!!! Creativity and play time always does it for me! So I had a photo shoot with my beautiful best friend which is always a shit ton of fun, then to Whole Foods for a samwhich and off to eat in the park, a little frolic in the sun, then more photos on a sunny perfect 75 degree spring day...hope you like some of these photos by the way, I was all about these DIY ripped up and bleached stained jeans-80's metal band much? Ha. Any ways here is what's soon to come to the shop. PS so I'm off traveling this summer (wooohooo so terribly excited) then moving, so there may be a few months of no action, but I'll more than likely come back from travels all inspired and energized!!!!!! xoxo

Holy crap it has been some monthssssss..... I've taken such a loooong break to focus on grad school that I literally was itching in my own skin to do this photo shoot, to be behind the camera and have a blast stylin' and showing you guys some of the vintage I've found over the past 3 months... FINALLY, here is a sneak peek! YAHOOOOO....I wish I had more to share, as this is such a passion of mine, from the hunting, to the styling, to the photo shoots to collaborating with my amazing friends. I'm going to try my best to keep things coming your way over the next few months with the spring/summer finds, but this summer may be a dry spell since I'll be overseas for all of June and July (a good thing, much needed holiday and to visit family ;) well I hope you like what you see...

AHHHHH such a long hiatus it makes me sad! To update the shop has been slightly on pause, slightly meaning not bringing the action packed goods weekly like I try to do, due in large part because I've been studying for this beautiful wonderful thing called the GRE or hell...for Grad school! Daunting and unpleasant standardized test to say the least, but alas it must be done and this is why SHV has been a lil slower than normal bringing you the vintage finds! But the test is nearing, and the shop has some goodies to share and more to come in the next weeks! Then in December/January the vintage finds should be back to regularly scheduled programming ;) But in the meanwhile here are a few goodies that will be up soon, and if you haven't checked out the shop, well take a look. xoxoxo Mavs

hmmm, always something new right? Currently sitting here, sipping my delicious morning coffee from the little ma and pa shop around the corner, man is the coffee delicious, and soaking up the morning!

About the shop, there are new threads always, setting up a photoshoot in the next week (hopefully!) and share the goods with you! On the major hunt for boots and booties, man are they getting harder and harder to find in California...ahhh vintage in general seems to be harder in the months of August and September (the transition). But I rarely give up that easy, so not to worry! And... well about me, it is about time I got on a plane, train and took off some where, need to travel again, see different cultures, meet new people, eat new foods, smell new smells, basically use all my senses and be out of my element, being taught new things! Central America anyone? And if anyone has any suggestions on where to stay, or what countries to visit (looking into Costa Rica and Nicaragua) please email me!

Of course I say that, and we all love vintage, which is older, wiser, and more comfortable being herself and being unique than any other forms of clothing we can get our hands on nowadays, besides couture hand made digs!

So I haven't been able to find as many vintage goodies as I would have wanted this past month or so in my fantasy world, you know the one; we live on pink clouds and we have a magic wand and POOF all things turn to our favor, yeah that one :) in THAT world I would have come out with tons and tons of vintage finds to share with you all, especially after a whole month of searching! RIGHT?! RIGHT! Nope wrong, but I have found some amazing gems along the way, and had an amazing road trip, and just an awesome month of August! Oh and I feel it! Feels like I went and buried myself under this rock for the past week and it couldn't get any better under there! From the road trip, to the outdoors, to the lovely times spent with amazing people and funny, drooling dogs, over the past week...couldn't ask for any better. I am one spoiled lady right now! SPOILED! I needed that recharge, and now my friends, I am fully charged! Planning on doing a photo shoot this week, and we got a bunch of new goodies to show off and a bunch more that are just being altered and tweaked as we speak! KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED AND SPREAD THE LOVE! Look out, SHE HEARTS VINTAGE IS ON... ;)

ROAD TRIP USA-or maybe just the midwest

I can't express how excited I am about taking a road trip to visit one of my dearest and nearest friends, who just happened to move to Utah for Grad school, so this is where I'll be headed early EARLY this Friday morning! A little Utah, a little Wyoming and Idaho on the side, lots of nature, hiking, thrifting OF COURSE, and being away from my watch, phone and all else! No obligations, no deadlines, no where to be, I can keep going as you can see...I'll only be gone for 6 days, but I'm sure I'll have a slew of stories and misadventures to laugh and write about upon returning! Looking forward to all the photos I'll have to share with you all! :)

Wish me luck, and as long as I don't see TOO many snakes then I'll be okay, a little traumatized, but in overall good health ;)

You know those weeks where you just can't WAIT until Friday, and to top it off you keep forgetting what day it is so everyday is a day ahead, and everyday you're bummed out, so the week drags on...haaa well i feel like i'm already there, but right now i know it's tuesday (since it's right in front of me, i know genius right?!?!), but wait until tomorrow, i'll wake up and think it's thursday! well i've been enjoying the unusually cool and calm weather around these parts, and soaking it up, and me being 'idle' is very strange, i think i just get sooo use to having a few projects going on at once, and always either hunting for vintage, photo shoots, preparing DIY projects, and all the other activities of my life, that when i 'chill out' and put my leg up, it feels sort of strange...well it might also be i have no cable, which i hardly ever watched, but loooove the white noise in the background while i work while i worked on design projects and she hearts business...in any case i'm looking forward to the next weeks and this beautiful weather, and just re-learning how to unwind without tv/cable :) in the meantime i've been browsing a lot on the web, dangerous, but i've some across soooo many beautiful things, like photos, clothes, colors..all of it..inspiring...loving' the trousers, button down, mens vest sort of look, with a pair or gorgeous heels...here's a few of my favs...

soooo yes, i finally and officially ate sh!t on my bike, but since i have fallen before and was trained by an old bf how to fall that it ended up working out well (i would always laugh and tease him , like is there reallllly a "WAY" to fall...it was pretty silly...i think i ended up scaring the poor girl in the jetta at the stop light more than anything ;) and you know the surprising part, when you surprise yourself , well i was stunned on how i was only embarrassed for about 2 minutes and moved on, in and out of my head...what a great time...minus the concrete...so moving on i have been feeling pretty inspired, with great friends who not only know a thang or two about stylin, but are creative and passionate about it!! And she hearts is lucky to also have a friend as creative and kind as Ms. Kristin..check out some of her amazing shots below and her site design that kills {click to view} ...soon soon lovely...can't wait!

yesterday was a great time, actually this last week has been amazing, moved the studio, and got all set up (or for the most part) and took the greatest shoot with my girls Ericka and Jilly and my boy Russ yesterday, turned out great, and it was a fun time repeating Lykke Li's album Youth Novel..haha I've been known to repeat albums, and songs as a matter of fact, like for instance Sigur Ros......any ways by the time we looked at the clock it was nearly 11 p.m. (YES I'm THAT old and it was def my snooze time!:) here is a sneak peak of some of the new things that will be rolling thru the shop soon, and some old favs that we re-shot with the new equipment...hope you enjoy...thanks to my lovely friends!!

ha...i can't express how much thrilling thrift store shopping can be...i walk in ready to find things, but also telling myself, my lil' yogi mantra, to be content if i don't, because that is what thrift store shopping is ALL about, hits and misses, and you take it all in. okay well in any case as i'm jazzed and telling myself it's all good if i don't find anything i walk in, first (and more than most times) that weird unattainable smell, like the old clothes and furniture got into a fight with a febreze bottle and now things are confusing...i'm in it, just totally submerged in looking, searching, hearing the baby scream bloody murder in the next aisle, but for some reason i'm always content in thrift stores, almost a different way of relaxing, the opposite end of what yoga does for me, but all still relaxing and great! wowy i'm all about the tangents today...i have been finding some killer clothes lately, and we're having a photo shoot next week, trying to try out new photo tricks, lighting, camera ect, so look out for all new spring/summa..i'll a lil' sneak peak sometime next week.

p.s. the miss on that thrift store shopping day was me barreling down the parking lot and NOT seeing the unmarked speed bump in the road, yeah...not pretty, coffee everywhere, purse on the floor, and the best was right when i did it i looked to my right thinking "SHIT did i just hit someone or something!" and there were 4 dudes chillin' having a smoke break outside watching me...at least i had an attentive audience! my poor coche :(

can't say enough (or maybe I can) about how much I LOVEEEEE prints and vibrant colors, friends say I generally look nicer out of my usual black, grey, white wardrobe ;) just sort of kiddin' friends, so funny that I'm gravitating towards floral prints, abstract designs, super vibrant colors, pieces with dimension and depth. I mean come on, I feel nicer just finding the threads!!

I'm still new to bloggin' so I'm restarting to get into writing the blog and keeping up with it, I mean god knows if any one is even reading this, but hey, we all gots ta start some where! thanks for the re-do! :)

So lately I've been inspired by our old beloved 90's grunge era, yet this time around a lot more refined, feminine and versatile mix!

You can do a lottttt with a pair of old tattered jeans and tights, an over sized cardigan or button down shirt, I mean have you checked out the shop lately, we're all about it!

We're stocking up on more and more winter goods, with a few pea coats and a lot more sweaters, vests and boots that will come out and play very soon! Just to give you an idea of what we're got now...

And that I've been doing, I guess it might be the weather, or just me trying the blame the weather for my dreamlike mentality lately, but hey, good news is, either way, it's feeding my creativity!

So since this past week, with the weather change, all I've been wanting to do is lay around indoors, read, sleep, eat, see friends & family and shop for the store (that's my way out from cabin fever!) so I've found some great finds, and they should be up in the next few weeks!! Wait that didn't sound AT ALL creative...ha the joke was on me!!

So as short and sweet as this post has been, I just wanted to let ya all know (you know who you are, the only ONE person reading this lovely articulate blog) that new things will be a comin'....boots galore................................since I'm some what obsessed with shoes, great vintage dresses...stay tuned!

Yeah, you'd think I'd have been on board with the bloggin' thing many moons ago, since I am well trained on the art of talking!! HA! NO!

So have you checked out the shop? We just posted up at etsy about a month ago, and things are wayyyy great, love etsy, the community of people, the buyers, just the over all concept behind the site! We basically just moved the shop from eBay, which was great while it lasted for the year and half that we had it up, but lacked some sort of creativity, can't put my finger on it really?!?
